It is a good idea to have a policy of archiving regularly any files that you no longer use but might need to keep for legal reasons etc. Simply copy them to re-writeable CD, and label them clearly. Alternatively, write them to a USB data stick.
Archive
Delete
Once you have archived files, you can safely delete them, and any other unwanted files. Do this often. Remember to empty the Recycle Bin after this to get rid of them completely.
Delete emails regularly - these can mount up to enormous file sizes and take up a lot of room on your hard drive.
Disk Cleanup
This is a simple procedure that helps you free up space on your hard disk by searching your disk for files that you can safely delete. You can choose to delete some or all of the files. . If you have Windows XP, click on the Start button and choose All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.
De-Frag
This collects up all the fragmented files and puts them together, which greatly improves performance.If you have Windows, click on the Start button and choose Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
