Welcome to the special section for Legal Firms.

"Creative Connections has bridged the gap between our requirements and what our computer suppliers have been offering. As the IT Partner, I have found you to be very much 'on our side', as we have sought to co-ordinate all that is involved in setting up a new PC network. In short, your involvement proved invaluable in the setting up of our network system."- Richard Bubbers, Sedgwick Kelly

Creative Connections has been working for fourteen years with legal firms, advising them and training their staff on the implementation of IT. We can take you right through the process of changing from typewriters to computers, or we can support and help you develop your existing system.

Training for Legal Firms

We have a special set of Microsoft Office and Internet courses written for legal firms, complete with exercises of particular relevance. Take a look at the sample MSWord for Legal Firms outlines on the Training Outlines page.

Producing Legal Documents

The first priority in implementing an IT program is to ensure that the workflow is maintained without too much disruption. Often there is a well-established system of filing of paperwork, but each fee-earner has his or her own way of doing things. It is vital to decide first of all how the paperwork will be done in the new system, and once this is decided you can then start to choose your PC's and printers.

Documents that you need to consider

  • Letter
  • Fax
  • Letters also sent by Fax
  • Attendance Note
  • Bill
  • Compliment Slip

What other documents are required ?

Do you want to print your own letterhead?
Do you require different paper for continuation sheets?
What copies are required (fee-earner, draft, client etc.) and do you want these words to appear on the copies?
Do you want to use window envelopes or labels for letters?
What other labels required (for larger packets etc.)?

Styles

Styles are a very powerful feature of Word that ensure ease of legal document production and consistency in appearance. If you are creating a document from scratch or using a template purchased from the Internet, we can set up for you a customised Style Toolbar that allows you to apply your styles for headings and automatic legal numbering.

Printers

Is every user to have a printer attached to his or her PC or will you have several shared network printers?
How many trays do the printers have?
Which paper is to be put in which trays?

We recommend that printers are the same make and model and have the same tray setup as far as possible so that they are easy to set up and support.

Internal e-mail

Do you need e-mail to communicate with each other?

External e-mail

Does everybody need to communicate with the outside world via e-mail, or could you just have one PC in reception and the receptionist sends, receives and distributes e-mail? You could start with one PC, and add the facility for others later.

Internet Access

Will Fee-earners have Internet Access, or will there be just one shared PC?

Timetable for implementation

The above issues are just a sample of the issues you need to consider before you start to order the PC's and printers. All those parties involved in the implementation must be consulted at the outset and at least one person should be appointed to co-ordinate the whole project.

Above all, do not leave the organisation of the training until everything else has been decided. The training is going to be the key to your successful implementation.
