A web presence is a mustIt really is important to have a Web presence even if you do not intend to sell directly on the Web. It shows that you are at the cutting edge, and once you have paid the initial costs to set up a Web page, it is free advertising to potentially millions. Your company may already be listed on the Web in a directory or as part of another Web site, but if you don't have that "clickable" link, you have lost the business to your competitors. If you were searching for computer training on the web, and you came across a list of training companies like this: Friendly Computer Training Company ...which one would you contact first? Probably the one that you could find out more about immediately by clicking on the link (try it!) ...but you must keep it up to date! Many companies set up a web site as little more than a static brochure. This serves a purpose, but a web site is much more powerful if it is kept up to date with interesting and useful information and is "sticky" - that is, brings back people to look at it again and again. You can do this by putting on your web site information that they will keep coming back for. Help from Creative ConnectionsStarting to think about a web site can be very scary, and there are too many people around willing to give advice, and a lot of very ineffective web sites. I must say here that I am by no means satisfied with this web site, but it is an ongoing development project, as I believe all good web sites should be.Creative Connections does not design web sites for others - there are plenty of web design companies out there waiting for your business. But what we can do for you is give you an understanding of how a web site is put together so that you can either build one yourself, or at least know what you are looking for when shopping around for a web design company. Whichever route you decide to take, you are likely to want to maintain and update the site yourself, unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money paying someone else to do that. We can help you with this. For details of Creative Connections Web workshops, e-mail: wfrancis@creativeconnections.co.uk |
